Meet our white standard poodle, Sir Lucas Alexander of Sherwood North. He is an AKC registered standard poodle, born on April 10, 2014.
His parents are (Sire) Grand Champion Vintage High Roller and (Dam) UKC Champion Graphic Silverleaf.
He came to us from Spirit Poodles and Vintage Parti Poodles in Northfield, MN. Jennifer is a member of The Minnesota Purebred Dog Breeders Association and is a very thorough and conscientious breeder.
She is very careful about genetic testing, watching for good health, temperament, and structural soundness. We would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a standard poodle puppy.
Standard Poodle Puppy Meets Forever Family
Upon arrival at his new forever home, Luke was introduced to his new forever friend Lacey. They hit it off right away, in large part because Lucas was well socialized before coming to us.
Lacey was willing to accommodate Lucas in any way she could – including giving up her favorite toy – to make him feel at home in his new surroundings.
Lucas is a very friendly and assertive dog. He gets along great with everybody and is an awesome family pet.
We occasionally dog sit for friends, so it was fun to watch our new puppy interact with a rough collie named Sunny. Actually, Lucas loves playing “keep away” with any of his friends, whether they are 2 or 4 legged.
A White Standard Poodle Is High Maintenance
Even though Luke is a WHITE standard poodle, he has no problem whatsoever with getting dirty!
It didn’t take long to see that we were going to be bathing him more frequently than Lacey. And with his fluffier, cottony hair, brush outs are more time consuming too.
Thank goodness we have a residential dog grooming center!
COMING SOON: Have you ever tried to find information on building a pet grooming tub? Since online information is so hard to find, we are working on a video tutorial for installing a DIY pet grooming tub. We’ll share that when it becomes available.
Poodles Are Very Intelligent
Standard poodles are highly intelligent dogs (currently ranked #2 by the AKC), and Lucas is no exception. He was very easy to potty train and learned basic commands quickly as well.
We have completed beginner and intermediate obedience training, including some work with agility. Standard poodles love mental stimulation (and the opportunity for socialization is an added benefit). We look forward to completing his advanced certification soon.
Poodles Are High Energy Dogs
Many people are not aware that poodles were originally bred as waterfowl retrievers.
So naturally, they absolutely love to play fetch. This starts to subside somewhat as they get older, but as of this writing, Lucas is still obsessed with it.
And he has an uncanny ability to talk us into just about anything. Who could say no to that face?
In dog language, that means “I know you have to go to work, but can’t we just play FETCH first? That is the most important thing, right?”
Well, I could go on and on about Lucas – and standard poodles in general – but you get the idea. We LOVE this very comical, intelligent, friendly breed of dog.
Thanks for visiting. I hope you find lots of helpful information here.
